If you are on a well in the Piedmont region of Virginia, chances are you know something about hard water. The Piedmont is underlain by ancient igneous rock deposits leftover from a volcanic time long ago. What does that mean for you as a home owner in the region? Well... more than likely you have what is known as hard water. Hard water is ground water that contains large amounts of dissolved ions such as calcium, magnesium or more commonly in the Piedmont....iron. These dissolved ions can lead to nuisances for home owners. Anything from soap scum build up to brown staining can be a result of hard water. Iron is known to have a reddish tint. You may even notice a build up of what looks like rust in your toilet, sink, or shower head. Scrubbing alone often won't remove the stains. In my experience with iron deposits I have found that a product known as Whink Rust Remover does wonders. The stains seem to disappear right in front of your eyes. If you get sick of treating the stains there are preventive measures. You can look in to adding a water softner to your water.
If you don't mind the stains, don't worry. Hard water isn't dangerous to drink. It is essentially mineral water. Some even find the taste to be superior to other water types. It is a matter of preference.

To Buy or Not to BuyI would say as a realtor, the question I am asked
"John was great to work with. Very informed and professional. I told him what my husband and I were looking for in a house, and he found our dream home! We had a great experience working with John and highly recommend him to others."
