Living close to Washington D.C., but not too close can be a good thing. First off there is a discount living farther out. The cost of land, houses and taxes can be less than living in the capitol or its neighboring counties. But it is more than the money. Commuting can be more fun. I recently spoke with commuters in the area about how the long drive feels. “I don’t really notice it. I listen to books on tape.” Another commuter mentioned that podcasts can really help the time go by faster. One commuter learned a new language using an instructional cd. There are a lot of really beneficial uses of time.
Additionally, you can branch out socially and join a commuter pool. Having a companion to chat with on the ride in can really help the time pass by. You can also take turns putting the mileage on your cars.
Another perk to living in a commuter town is the town. Small town communities in the area have lots of charm. Nothing beats the views of the mountains and wide open spaces. There are wineries, shops, battlefields and so much more.

To Buy or Not to BuyI would say as a realtor, the question I am asked
"My wife and I just closed on our very first home this week, and I would like to thank John Fischer!
1) He is incredibly easy to work with and to get a hold of. I could call or text at any time of day and he would respond or answer. Even if he was in a showing or a closing he would text back immediately, letting me know when he would follow up.
2) He is very hard-working. We had very particular home requirements, as well as several financing snags. John cheerfully worked with us, provided excellent advice, and negotiated a good deal.
3) He goes beyond the call of duty. John shopped extensively to get us the best price on every service (inspection, additional inspection, title company, etc.) that we needed.
I will be enthusiastically recommending John to my family and friends if they need a realtor. Thank you for getting us our home!!!
